A Bit More Soul Workshop
“Just start”, said Alex right at this second as I am trying to think about how to start off this blog post. I don’t think this piece of advice could have come at a better time to be honest.
Sometimes trying to wrap up an experience like this and jumble it into words to try and make you feel as though you were actually here, can be hard for me. I don’t want to say I am bad at writing, because that is not my story, but I do want to learn to write better. That is just a personal thing for me and I guess this blog space will help me do exactly that.
A Bit More Soul is a photography & Inspiration retreat based in the South Island of New Zealand. This “workshop” is more than a workshop, it is a community and one that I am thankful to be part of. Things like this can be so amazing for the people attending, but it is also a good resource to help me grow on a personal level. Standing up in front of everyone and sharing my stories and thoughts can be hard, especially if the crowd doesn’t react well to what I want to say, but these guys made me feel so welcomed and my presentation was well received.
My presentation was about “Telling a better story”, but maybe not the stories you are thinking. I talked about the stories we tell ourselves to musk the truth to make it easier for us to give ourselves an excuse. It was confronting for many and of course can be a hard for me to tell people what I hide from, but it was something I am passionate about and I feel it is something that people need to hear.
I also got to do a live shoot in front of 60 people. Easy right? ah.. I wouldn’t say that. But it was fun. And I had an incredible couple that traveled to the workshop just for the shoot and to hopefully get some rad photos from it.
Teaching alongside so many talented and inspiring creatives from all walks of life makes it all worth it right there. These guys are at the top of their game and the energy they bring and their work ethic is second to none.
